Brother has updated its partners and customers on the ongoing integration activities with Mutoh following its acquisition of the business earlier this year.

In February Brother said it was looking to boost its wide-format and industrial offering by acquiring wide-format printer manufacturer Mutoh. The deal subsequently completed at the end of March, and Mutoh became a consolidated subsidiary of Brother.

Brother manufactures a range of home and office printers as well as label printers and garment printers while Mutoh offers a raft of eco-solvent, UV, and roll-to-roll printers as well as CAD plotters.

In the letter to partners and customers, Brother and Mutoh’s management laid out a number of principles that it will operate by “as we work towards building a stronger, more competitive organisation”.

The letter stated: “We will continue to operate under both the Brother and Mutoh brands for the foreseeable future. We remain committed to developing and launching new products under both brands, leveraging the most suitable technologies and capabilities to address the diverse needs of our customers and applications.”

It added: “No existing dealer or partner relationship will be changed or terminated as a result of the acquisition. We are working on strengthening our dealer network and partner program, taking into consideration existing partnerships, market coverage, each partner's strengths, commitment to our brands, and potential for future growth.

“Our ambition is to combine the complementary strengths of Brother and Mutoh to deliver greater value to our dealers, partners, and end customers ‘at your side’.

“We will continue to keep you informed as our integration progresses and further plans are developed.”

Brother has been making a strategic push into the industrial print market over the last few years and had attempted a hostile takeover of Roland DG in 2024 but this failed after the management team at Roland DG succeeded in acquiring a majority stake in the business after increasing their offer.
