Kyocera launches inkjet printhead for label and packaging applications

The KJ4A-EX600RC-HX supports white ink, varnish and foil decoration while delivering 600 dpi printing at speeds up to 100 m/min.

Kyocera has introduced the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX, a new circulating inkjet printhead developed for label and packaging printing. Sales of the printhead are scheduled to begin in November 2026.

Designed for UV inks, the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX supports white ink, varnish and foil decoration, targeting applications requiring higher ink deposition and decorative effects. The printhead offers 600 dpi resolution, an effective print width of 108.33 mm and printing speeds up to 100 m/min.

A key feature is Kyocera's ink circulation technology, which circulates ink near the nozzles. The design is intended to prevent ink components from settling or drying while maintaining a uniform ink temperature, supporting stable jetting with higher-viscosity and pigment-based inks. According to Kyocera, the circulation system can also reduce cleaning requirements when restarting production.

The printhead supports ink viscosities ranging from 8-11 mPa路s, compared with 6-7 mPa路s for previous models. Kyocera says the expanded range enables the use of a broader variety of inks and decorative applications.

Maximum droplet volume has also increased 23% compared with the company's previous KJ4A-AL model, from 17 pL to 21 pL. The larger droplets can provide greater white-ink opacity and higher deposition for raised varnish effects and foil decoration. Minimum droplet volume is 7 pL.

Kyocera has also doubled the maximum drive frequency from 20 kHz on the previous model to 40 kHz, enabling the KJ4A-EX600RC-HX to reach speeds of 100 m/min, which the company says is among the highest productivity levels of its UV ink-compatible printheads.

The new printhead reflects increasing development of digital inkjet technology for embellishment as well as conventional color printing, particularly as label and packaging producers look to digitally produce white, varnish and metallic decorative effects alongside shorter-run and high-mix work.
