With the Colorado, Arizona and even Texas models, typically hogging the wide format spotlight where Canon is concerned, the company has signalled that it does not want its global customer base to lose sight of its oldest and most extensive models and has consequently announced a complete refresh of its imagePROGRAF TX and TM wide-format printers for the AEC market.
Mathew Faulkner, EMEA Marketing and Innovation Director, Canon Europe says: “Organisations today need to collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholders and locations, while continuing to produce high-quality output quickly and efficiently. With the new imagePROGRAF TM and TX Series, we’re advancing our large format portfolio to help simplify everyday workflows, support better coordination and enable faster, more informed decision-making across a wide range of technical and professional printing environments.”
Originally developed for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) market, the units have improved in quality so much that they have increasingly been used by other graphics applications, such as posters and retail graphics. The two series comprise multiple units in both single-function and multifunction configurations. The refreshed series now includes 12 new devices – seven five-colour pigment ink models in the TM series and five high-productivity units in the TX series – still targeted to the AEC market segments, but also looking to grow their footprint in the adjacent retail and education sectors, as well as for other light graphics applications.
The additions to the TM series are the TM-615, TM-610M, TM-610, TM-600, TM-510M, TM-510, and TM-500, supporting a wide range of print-and-scan needs, such as digitising and copying architectural drawings through to the generation of posters for retail displays, restaurants, and school bulletin boards. Each new TM unit utilises a new matte black ink with enhanced black density to print deeper, crisper fine lines and small text in technical drawings, while also allowing vivid colour reproduction for posters. The TM-600 can reach print speeds up to 2.7 D-size prints per minute while the TM-610, TM-610M, and TM-615 can print up to 3.2 D-size prints per minute.
The new imagePROGRAF TX Series has been designed for more security-conscious, larger AEC organisations and government departments, and comprises the 44-inch TX-4300 and 36-inch TX-3300 single-function printers, with a 44-inch TX-4310 and 36-inch TX-3310 multifunction models also available, combining the printer with a Z36 scanner solution for organisations requiring scanning capabilities. The TX range delivers print speeds of up to 3.3ppm for A1 output. Dual-roll media handling, hot-swappable ink tanks and automated calibration features help minimise downtime and maintain consistent output. A newly developed pull-out basket is designed to neatly stack large sets of drawings face-down while maintaining print order.
The refreshed ranges build on Canon’s broader expertise in large format printing. Both ranges also incorporate increased use of recycled materials, including up to 25% recycled plastic and 5% recycled iron and EPS-free packaging.
