Which Is Easier to Rework and Reapply, Dot Adhesive Film or Fully Coated Adhesive Film?
Dot adhesive film is the easier choice when a graphic has to be lifted, realigned and reapplied. FreePost® Spider™ places the adhesive in separate dots instead of one continuous layer, so air can leave through the gaps as the sheet goes down, and the sheet lets go cleanly when it has to be moved or replaced. Easy install, easy remove and no residual adhesive are what that construction is for, and a poster-sized graphic can be put up and changed by store staff without a professional crew. A fully coated adhesive film bonds across its whole back, so each correction is typically slower and more dependent on skilled handling. FreePost® Spider™ is specified for short-term indoor use, such as seasonal promotions and trade shows. The reduced adhesive contact area allows the film to be removed cleanly after that short-term indoor application. The difference is the install and removal experience on those short-term jobs.
Rework Is Where Fully Coated Adhesive Film Costs Retail and POP Teams the Most Time
The time that adds up on window and in-store graphics is often not the first install but every correction and changeover after it. A poster goes up slightly crooked, a price changes, a campaign rotates, or a store layout moves. Each of these is a rework event. Between those events the same film is still expected to stay put.
On a continuous adhesive back, air caught under the sheet has to travel sideways to the edge, so the usual install path is a squeegee and practiced technique. Once that full-area bond has tacked down, lifting a corner to fix alignment is more likely to stretch or crease the print. If the adhesive was not specified for a clean release, residue on the glass or panel has to be cleaned off before the next graphic. Those handling steps are why this kind of changeover is often scheduled as skilled install work.
FreePost® Spider™ dot adhesive film is specified the other way. The product data describes it as dot-patterned, removable and bubble-free, applied dry, suitable for most clean, flat surfaces without professional tools, and intended for short-term indoor applications. Store staff can put up a poster-sized graphic, peel it back if it is a few millimeters off, and lay it down again, then take it off at changeover with no residual adhesive to scrape off. That is an easy install, easy remove, no residual workflow, so the changeover does not need a crew on site. Clean removal is specified after short-term indoor use. The film is not specified for long-term display.
How Dot Adhesive Film Lets Air Out and Releases Cleanly
Dot adhesive film is easier to rework because two things can be observed at the back of the film: air has a way out, and less adhesive is in contact with the surface.
When a film with a continuous adhesive layer meets glass, air caught between them has to move sideways to the edge. That is why bubbles are a common result on that construction, and why installers work the air out with a squeegee. Spider™ film uses a discrete dot pattern instead of a continuous coating, and the gaps between dots are the escape paths. The product data states that this supports bubble-free application without a professional squeegee or special tools.
On removal, the same product data states that the reduced adhesive contact area allows the film to be removed cleanly after short-term indoor application. Less bonded area means the sheet lets go more predictably when peeled, which is what a reposition or a changeover needs. A misaligned graphic can be peeled back without fighting a fully bonded layer, and it can be laid down again without trapping a new bubble, because the gaps are still there. That clean release is specified after short-term indoor use. The film is not rated for long-term display.
Two limits should stay in view. The Spider name is product branding, not a description of how the adhesive works. And the product data does not state how many times a single sheet can be repositioned, so confirm that figure with the factory if the workflow depends on repeated lifts.
Spider™ Dot Adhesive Models Compared for Rework-Friendly Installs
FreePost® Spider™ models share a dot-pattern removable construction, but they differ in face material and printer compatibility, so select by model, not by series. The table lists the printable models. Thickness is in microns (μm), including the release liner, because these are films, not papers. Figures are taken from the Spider™ model sheets cited at the end. They are not inferred from the FreePost® line as a whole, and they are not interchangeable with other FreePost® series.

Mil values are rounded conversions at 25.4 μm per mil.
One further model matters for rework planning. SP-TAPE60Z is a clear PET laminating film with a permanent high-tack adhesive on one side and Spider™ dot removable adhesive on the other, 240±12 μm total. It is not printed. It is laminated to an existing graphic, which gives that print a dot adhesive back so it can be repositioned and removed cleanly for short-term indoor use. The high-tack side is a construction detail of the tape, not a rating for a longer or harsher display.
Key Parameters to Check Before Committing to a Dot Adhesive Workflow
The parameters that decide a smooth rework workflow are printer compatibility, face material, thickness and roll yield, in that order. Peel force is not given as a g/25mm value on these Spider™ sheets. These models are specified for short-term indoor use. Peel force does not assign a model to a window, a counter, a traffic lane or an air draft.
Match the model to the printer first. A shop running water-based dye or pigment inkjet should look at SP-PP200WW8. A Latex or eco-solvent shop has several PP, PET and PVC options, each with its own listed ink set. A shop that needs laser toner or UV offset should look at SP-PET115EW5. The wrong model for the ink is a print failure before rework is even a question. Do not treat one model’s ink list as a series capability.
Pick the face for the visual effect. Clear PET and PVC faces suit graphics meant to be seen through glass, frosted PVC gives a translucent look, and white faces give an opaque base for full-color posters. PET, PP and PVC faces can carry the same dot adhesive construction because these films are coated and slit on lines Scitop Ltd has run for more than 20 years.
Use thickness to plan handling, and keep each breakdown on its own model. The PVC models in the table sit at 250±15 μm total, with a film thickness of ≈130 μm. The PET models at 165±10 μm total are the thinnest in this range. An indoor listing on these sheets is the service environment for short-term use, such as seasonal promotions and trade shows, not a long-term display grade.
Run roll-yield arithmetic before quoting. SP-PVC120E2W6 is listed in 1370 mm and 1520 mm widths at 50 m and 100 m lengths:
| Roll size | Area (m²) | Area (ft²) |
|---|---|---|
| 1370 mm × 50 m | 68.5 | ~737 |
| 1370 mm × 100 m | 137.0 | ~1,475 |
| 1520 mm × 50 m | 76.0 | ~818 |
| 1520 mm × 100 m | 152.0 | ~1,636 |
To get cost per usable square meter, divide the roll price by the area left after your own trim and test-print allowance. Take that allowance from the nesting layout, not from a generic percentage.
Respect the limits written for these Spider™ models, and do not copy them onto other FreePost® lines. The Spider™ models in this guide have a working temperature of -20 to 80 °C and a shelf life of one year. Rotate stock so rolls are used within the stated shelf life.
Common Dot Adhesive Installation Failures and How to Trace Them
Most Spider™ dot adhesive problems trace to the surface, the printer match, stock condition or sheet handling. The format is specified for short-term indoor use; that is the service rating, not an install defect. Only modes supported by the product data are listed here. None of them means a sheet is permanently ruined.
- Poor adhesion or edges lifting. The series is specified for most clean, flat surfaces. If the surface is dirty, textured or uneven, check the surface before blaming the film. - Wrinkles and curing. On FreePost® Spider™, wrinkles and curing affect cling persistence. Keep the sheet free of wrinkles at install. This note is for Spider™. It is not a combined rule for every FreePost® line, and it is not a statement that the cling cannot be maintained on a sheet that was applied flat. - Print defects such as poor ink holdout or smearing. Compatibility is model-specific. Confirm that the model in use is listed for the ink. SP-PP200WW8 is listed for water-based inks; SP-PP145EW8 is not. - Behavior outside the stated temperature window. The Spider™ sheets used here cover a working temperature of -20 to 80 °C. Installations outside that range are not covered by that specification. Do not borrow this window from, or lend it to, another model line. - Inconsistent results from older stock. Shelf life on these Spider™ sheets is one year. Material held beyond that is outside the data sheet.
Action Checklist for Moving From Fully Coated to Dot Adhesive Film
Moving the rework-heavy jobs onto dot adhesive film is a short, practical process once the printer and the surfaces are known. These films are specified for short-term indoor display, such as seasonal promotions and campaign rotations, not for long-term display.
1. List every graphic that gets corrected, rotated or removed on a short-term indoor program. That is where the rework advantage is specified. Graphics meant to stay up long-term are outside the FreePost® Spider™ short-term indoor rating. A clean release after that short-term use does not make the film a long-term display product. 2. Confirm the ink system on each printer and shortlist only the Spider™ models listed for it. 3. Choose clear, frosted or white faces from how the graphic should look on glass or panels. 4. Check that install surfaces are clean and flat, and that site temperatures fall within the working range listed for the exact Spider™ model, -20 to 80 °C on the sheets used here. 5. Lay the sheet down dry, without wrinkles. On Spider™, wrinkles and curing affect cling persistence. 6. For existing prints that need short-term indoor repositioning, evaluate SP-TAPE60Z lamination instead of reprinting. 7. Brief store staff on dry application: align, lay down, peel back to correct if needed, and remove cleanly at changeover, with no residual adhesive and no professional crew required. 8. Ask the factory for any figure the data sheet does not give and the workflow depends on, such as peel force or a repositioning count. Peel force, if supplied later, does not change the short-term indoor rating of these Spider™ models. 9.
